Basketball: Betting and More!
Basketball is a sport played between two teams, each comprising of five players. The target is to place the ball through the top of a hoop 10 foot high. The ball is advanced by shooting, rebounding, passing, dribbling and blocking which are some of the regulated strategies adopted by players to earn points by finally placing the ball in the highly positioned basket in a 94X50 feet rectangular court with hops on the either side. The team scoring higher number of points in the prescribed time limit is adjudged the winner. However, extra time can be granted to negate a stalemate.
This game was conceptualized by a Canadian professor in 1891 to keep his students well occupied on a rainy day. The current form of the basketball is very popular all around the globe and is played indoors, but outdoor basketball events are becoming popular too with slight variation.
The ground of the court is usually prepared with maple wood. The baskets are of steel with an 18 inch diameter opening with hanging cylindrical nets so that the ball upon entering the basket drops down slowly and steadily for everybody to watch. The basketball is of 29.5 inch size weighing 22 oz. for men and 28.5 inch size weighing 20 oz. for women players. The game requires men with a good height generally 6 feet+ and women with 5.7 feet height. The tallest player in the team occupies the central or one of the two forward positions. Fouls and violations are penalized.
As in football, point spread for wagering is also prevalent in basketball in which a handicap is imposed upon one team to make both teams equal. The team expected to win becomes the favorite and the other team is called an underdog. The other betting modes are “Total” predicting combined score of both the teams and “Money Line wagers” and “parlays and Teasers”.
Good luck!
